Chartwell

Our day begins with a visit to Chartwell in Kent, home to Sir Winston Churchill for over forty years. Churchill loved Chartwell, and lived here until his death in 1965. Here he was not only a politician and statesman but also a husband, father, writer, painter and garden planner.
The house - in which the rooms remain much as they were when he lived here, with pictures, books and personal mementoes. A special exhibition gives deeper insight into his life through 50 objects.
The Studio - houses the largest single collection of Winston Churchill’s paintings.
The gardens - reflect Churchill’s love of landscape and nature. They include the lakes he created, and Rose, Walled and Kitchen gardens. A truly fascinating and beautiful place.

Free entry for National Trust members; +£20 for non-members. Own arrangements for lunch in the Landemare Café. At 4.00pm we will re-board the coach for Part II…

The Old Plough, Stoke d'Abernon

Perhaps known to many of you, The Old Plough pub at Stoke d’Abernon is a 300 year old listed building, full of natural warmth and charm and with an excellent reputation for quality food.

We’ll arrive here at around 5.00pm to enjoy a two-course dinner from a menu specially created for us. We’ll circulate the menu (it’s really good!) to everyone shortly before our visit so we can submit a pre-order. Price includes tea/coffee to finish.

And to finish off a wonderful day, we’ll head down the road for Part III…

How lucky we are to have The Menuhin Hall on our doorstep. This wonderful purpose-built concert hall sits within the leafy grounds of The Yehudi Menuhin School and plays host to a programme of classical music performed by the pupils themselves, as well as visiting celebrity artists and groups.

Founded in 1963 by the celebrated violinist Yehudi Menuhin, the school provides a place for musically gifted children from around the world to develop their talents to the highest level, and we are pleased to support them. Proceeds from ticket sales go towards bursaries and other programmes to support pupils.

The Leavers’ Showcase concert starts at 7.30pm, finishing at 9.30pm.

Phew - what a day!
