Our day will start our day with a free-flow visit to the Imperial War Museum in London, to pay a visit to a special Platinum Jubilee exhibition exploring the Queen’s role in times of war.

 

From her unprecedented decision to join the Auxiliary Territorial Service in 1944, and throughout her 70-year reign, Her Majesty the Queen has lived through times of conflict, maintaining an enduring relationship with the armed forces and honouring those affected by war at home and across the world. This special exhibition includes poignant items and rarely seen photographs and film.

In addition, you can explore other permanent displays, including the First World War, Second World War and Holocaust Galleries.  For lunch, you can bring your own picnic, or make use of the café in the Museum atrium, with indoor and outdoor seating.

In the afternoon, we re-board the coach and head to Richmond to visit The Poppy Factory, this year marking its centenary. 

​

Established in the aftermath of the First World War, The Poppy Factory developed into a community of wounded and injured veterans and their families. In the new Visitor Centre, we’ll have a talk and a tour, and learn how veterans today still make Royal and regimental wreaths by hand. We can even have a go at making our own poppy! 

​

As part of our visit, we’ll enjoy a delicious ‘Factory Tea-break’ served by veteran baristas, with freshly baked cakes served by in-house artisan bakers.
