Itinerary Day 1
Travel and Ypres

An early start to board our coach and make our Channel crossing with Le Shuttle, to arrive in Calais just after midday (French time). We travel onward to Ypres to have some lunch and where you can explore the beautiful town square, including the outstanding Flanders Fields museum and the Menin Gate memorial honouring the fallen from WWI.
Then onward to our hotel where we’ll convene for our first dinner in the restaurant.

Itinerary Day 2
Keukenhof Gardens and Haarlem

We start our day with a visit to the spectacular Keukenhof Gardens. The gardens cover an area of 32 hectares in which roughly seven million bulbs are planted annually, showcasing 800 different varieties of tulip. A truly breath-taking experience. An historic windmill dating from 1892 can be climbed by visitors for a panoramic view of the vast displays of vibrant colour.

In the afternoon we move on to the medieval town of Haarlem, the historical centre of the tulip bulb-growing district. Here we can explore the magnificent Great Church of St Bavo, the market square, shops, canal-side walks and museums.

Itinerary Day 3
Delft Pottery and the Panorama Mesdag

We start the day with a visit to the Delft Pottery Museum. Plenty of time to learn about the history, craftmanship and innovative production techniques of this iconic earthenware. Lunch can be enjoyed in the beautiful courtyard of the Brasserie 1653.

We then move on to view the famous Panorama Mesdag - an immense 360 degree painting of a coastal scene, painted by Hendrik Willem Mesdag in 1880. It is one of the few remaining examples of its kind, and the oldest in the world to remain in its original location.

Itinerary Day 4
Amsterdam canal cruise and time at leisure

Today we head into Amsterdam, capital city of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, colloquially known as 'The Venice of the North'. Here, we'll take a canal cruise to take in the sights of the city and appreciate some of its historic buildings and landmarks.
After the cruise, you have free time to explore the city centre according to your own interests. There are many attractions competing for your attention - the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum, the Ann Frank House, the many lanes and squares with 'special' coffee shops and other 'areas of interest'... Nearer the time, we can help you plan the day, with more information and booking options.

Itinerary Day 5
Return home via Ghent
Hotel check out, then we begin our homeward journey.
But one last stop - at the picturesque city of Ghent, where we will visit the Gravensteen Castle, known as The Castle of the Counts. The castle has been protecting the city for 1,000 years and is one of only three castles surviving from medieval times. There is a wide selection of eateries for lunch.
We then move on for our Channel crossing at 6.20pm, getting back to the home area around 7.30pm, depending on traffic.
